RELIGIOUS STUDIES
SCIENCE (APPLIED)
A LEVEL
AAQ
Religious studies A level allows you to apply a wide range of
concepts, better enabling you to interpret, contextualise and
analyse expressions of religions and world views.
The Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC
National in Applied Science (Extended Certificate) is an
Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) designed for
sixth form students with an interest in science and aiming
to progress to higher education as a route to graduate level
employment. Equivalent to one A level in size, it is suitable
for students looking to develop their applied knowledge and
skills in science.
It encourages you to develop an appreciation of religious
thought and its contribution to individuals, communities,
and societies.
Religions and beliefs to research and present well-informed and
reasonable arguments, which engage profoundly with moral,
religious and spiritual issues.
The course consists of the philosophy of religion, religion and ethics
and the study of religion which is Hinduism. This exciting course
looks at the arguments for the existence of God, challenges religious
belief including the problem of evil and suffering and religious belief
being a product of the mind.
There will also be a study of three ethical theories. In Hinduism you
will consider the practices which shape and express religious identity
and work of scholars.
The qualification has four mandatory units covering the following
topics:
Principles and Applications of Biology
Structure and function of cells and tissues, biological molecules,
enzymes and their role in organisms.

Principles and Applications of Chemistry
Structure of the Periodic Table and its implications on physical and
chemical properties of substances, through analysis of different
bonding methods.

Principles and Applications of Physics
Waves and their applications; force principles and their application
in transportation and construction of electrical circuits.

Course-specific entry requirements
You will need a grade 6 in religious studies or a grade 6
in English.
Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
Practical applications across the sciences, including chromatography,
colorimetry and electrical circuits.

You will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction qualification grade
by the aggregation of points gained through the successful
achievement of individual units.
Course-specific entry requirements
No additional requirements to the main entry to sixth form
information.
