HISTORY

This course allows you to study a broad selection of
health-related topics, as an introduction to the many career
opportunities in the health, social or Early Years sectors.
History A level will allow you to study significant events,
individuals, and issues. You will look at a range of historical
perspectives with a focus on continuity and change
over time. The course allows you to develop and apply an
understanding of historical concepts.
As the course unfolds you will develop the knowledge, skills and
qualities that are necessary for professional practice in the health or
care sectors, you should have a real passion to help people in one of
these fields.
You will study three units throughout the A level course, focusing on
three main historical periods as follows:
Although the course is highly varied, it focuses on three core sectors
Health; Adult Social Care; and the Children and Young People’s
Workforce, which support the care and development of people
in society.
The course will develop your knowledge of a range of fascinating
topics, including principles of health and social care, person centred
approach to care, anatomy and physiology, longer term physiological
conditions, sexual health and reproduction, nutrition, public health,
mental health conditions and safeguarding.
Course Specific Entry Requirements:
No additional requirements to the main entry to sixth form
information.

The War of the Roses, England 1445–1509: Lancastrians, Yorkists
and Henry VII investigates the intrigue, infighting and turbulent
history of Britain focusing on how the War of the Roses caused the
rise of the Tudors. A real life ‘Game of Thrones’.
Italy 1896−1943 investigates the Italian state aer unification, leading
to the rise and fall of one of the 20th century’s first dictators - Benito
Mussolini.
Civil Rights in the USA 1865−1992 investigates the struggles of
American minority groups, such as African Americans, women,
workers and Native Americans to gain equal rights and recognise
the ‘American dream’.
In addition, you will complete a 3000 - 4000 word essay which you
will research independently. You will have guidance on choosing a
topic and essay title to suit you.
History is a discipline which necessitates vital skills which many
employers and universities value. Many who study history go on to
join esteemed professions such as the civil service, law, business
management and the media.
Course Specific Entry Requirements:
A grade 6 in history and a grade 5 in English or if you have not
studied history before a 6 in English.
