CRIMINOLOGY
LEVEL 3 (DIPLOMA)
Studying criminology will enable you to develop an
understanding of the different types of crime committed,
the influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes
go unreported.
Exploring how media campaigns may affect society’s understanding
of crimes is key and you will have the opportunity to plan your own
‘campaign for change’. Learning about different theoretical
perspectives which try to explain why crime is committed in the
first place.
The journey from crime scene to courtroom, will enable you to
answer: What happens to a suspect once charged by the Police and
the Crown Prosecution Service? What safeguards are in place to
ensure a suspect has a fair trial? Exploring the way in which the court
system within the UK ensures suspects are processed fairly and the
way sentencing and punishment meets the aims of punishment,
such as retribution or rehabilitation.
A qualification in criminology will open doors into many job roles
within the criminal justice sector, social and probation work and
sociology and psychology.
